I am Luke Parnell, I play and design board and card games. I have been a professional artist for 20 years, avid hiker and northerner. While this space will centre on board game design I will also show my art practice.

I’m doing some solo play testing of my new trick taking lane battler. The solo is just random but is good for testing mechs. I’m using minis from Halo: Flashpoint for the battling. It works pretty well, I need to test with people because the automa is easy to beat. Using the minis adds a lot.

I completed my solo learning game of Federation I scored 127 points but I didn’t use everything and learned as it went. The automa is easy to use as this is a beat your own score solo game. It just restricts your worker placement spaces and adds rising point thresholds for scoring.

I’m playing a learning game of Federation with the solo mode. I’ve wanted this game since it was first on KS, but it was 2 to 4 players. I finally broke down and bought it and the solo expansion. I still haven’t figured it all out yet.

Apparently a lot of Americans didn’t know Belgium was a country. When an American asked where Belgium was, they responded, “in the quarter finals”. Yes I stole this joke, like you stole my land colonizer!

My board game haul from Montreal and Vancouver. Crits and Tricks, The Bloody Inn and a friend gave me Lone Wolf and Cub game, it’s not well rated but I love the IP. Not shown Flamecraft metal coins and mini expansion for Civolution.

I love it when comicsgate-ish a holes title their YouTube videos so it’s obvious and I don’t accidentally start watching it. That way I can just hit “don’t recommend channel” and it will go away for awhile. That content is insidious tho and always comes back. Stay vigilante.

I did some playtesting on Wednesday night, I tested War Canoe, Feral Feline Furenzii (not seen). And for the first play test ever, AWG: Let’s gets some Pins and a blind test of 3 Ravenz. I got some amazing feedback, it was really fun, thank you to those who came out!

I’m running a workshop where we will develop a small modern card game using traditional card games as a base. It‘s about iteration as a process ofgame development. We will work in teams to make games that speak to your experiences. It’s on Thursday night at the Daphne Art centre in Montreal.

I finished my first solo play test, the game works, a lot of dice chucking with mitigation. I can already see some rule changes. I like the Hugo card look for the player board/pin collection. I can’t wait to try it with people

I’m still working on making a prototype but working on the board helps me develop the idea as I go. I have no idea if it will work in real life, but I like this process because it like an idea board. I like the look of the background tho.

I’m working on a new game, the working title is, AWG: Let’s get some Pins!, the game is a series of mini-games. It’s primarily a dice rolling, worker placement, set collection game, it plays 1 to 5 players. It’s about collecting pins at the Arctic Winter Games. I love game design.
