This is a publicly funded government agency refusing to share weather warnings and their own public warnings with a journalist at Global News, one of the larger mainstream news outlets in Canada. I really want you to sit with the bare facts of that.

This is what we're up against trying to report on the CFB Wainwright tragedy.
On October 18, I asked Environment Canada for the original wind-warning bulletins for the region, to make sure I hadn't missed any and because several had since been archived online.
I also asked for the timestamped XML files - or directions on how to access them myself.
I wasn't asking about the fire. I wasn't asking for anything new. I was trying to retrieve historical weather warnings and records, most of which were already publicly available.
This was their response.
It took them two full working days to send this.Hello Ashleigh,
Apologies for the delay in responding.
The Government of Canda are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this past weekend at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. We wish to extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is providing its full collaboration to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.
Due to the ongoing investigation into the incident, the Department will not comment further at this time.
Our thoughts are with those who sustained injuries and their families, and with all members of Canada's Armed Forces.

I heard Poker Face on the radio and it struck me that it sounds like it could have come out this year. You can chalk it up to Lady Gaga’s influence. You can conclude pop music has barely changed in 20 years. You can spin out questioning and prodding that idea. Or you can move on with your day.

I re-watched Twilight Zone: The Movie this weekend, and was reminded that John Lithgow screaming “There’s a man on the wing of this plane!” is one of my all-time favourite movie moments.

Being middle-aged is weird, cause you spend your youth exploring subcultures and filling your head with esoteric stuff — and then one day you realize you’d rather just listen to Pet Sounds.

Interesting episode about who has money and power in the US. They break down who the 1% actually is (car dealers, dentists) and then show not just how they can use money to lobby for their interests, but how a disproportionate number of them become members of congress www.npr.org/2026/09/25/n...

Everyone is dunking on that "Choosin Texas" article. I for one applaud the writer’s optimism that we all still live in a shared reality and are not in fact each digging through our own unique wet stinky hole of culture.

I’m going to see the History of Concrete 50% because I love John Wilson’s work and 50% because it’s funny to tell my family I’m going to the movie theatre to watch The History of Concrete.

Meta's platforms have repeatedly been caught running ads for deepfake "nudify" apps that let you virtually undress real people without their consent, but they won't run an a trailer for an upcoming documentary that reflects poorly on Elon Musk. www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/dig...

The Major Social Media Platforms Are All Rejecting Paid Ads for Alex Gibney’s ‘Musk’ (Exclusive)

YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won't even take Bleecker Street's calls. The distributor is appealing.
