I understand that lists like this are mostly just there for clicks, and I think most of these songs are great but limiting each artist to one song feels disingenuous. Both Prince and Madonna, for instance, could realistically have more than one entry on any "best songs of the 1980s" list.

My other one: my school had a walk-a-thon and I had no friends so tagged along with my brother and some older skateboard kids he knew and they had a boom box and played "Anarchy in the UK" by the Sex Pistols and I genuinely felt like I had the wind knocked out of me. Didn't know music could do that!

Do you have any striking moments of hearing a song for the first time? I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard a milli (shitfaced at a college party naturally but I remember everything about it due to the momentousness of experiencing a milli)

I had a paper route and a walkman and I was experimenting with the left end of the dial where all the college stations were and heard "It's the End of the World As We Know It" by R.E.M. and ran home, looked up the radio station in THE PHONE BOOK and called the station to ask who did that song.
