This is incredible content, it's the same "it's cheaper if you cook / I'm too tired from work to cook" discourse from BlueSky except literally no one posting actually cooks or has a real job, so nobody has any standing to argue either side and yet they're far nastier about it.

The infuriating thing about this argument to me is that there is an objectively true argument that serves the exact same rhetorical purpose, which is that per unit cost for virtually all consumer items fall with quantity. Boots theory doesn't need to be true, move on. The poverty tax is Dollar Tree.
the “boots theory” is the complete opposite of my experience as a Boots Guy as far as durability goes tbh
Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social · 16h agoThe problem with this idea is that it requires that quality/durability of a product grow exponentially with price. E.g.: if you pay $5 for a whatsit, it lasts a year. If you pay $10 for a whatsit, it lasts 3 years. This is an absolute mathematical requirement for the theory to make sense.
