Born #otd 1876 Isobel Harrison, who married composer #GustavHolst in 1901, did much to support him and outlived him by 35 years. It was good to hear about her from people in her beloved Thaxted who knew her well. This lovely portrait by Millicent Lisle Woodforde is at HolstVictorianHouse Cheltenham.

Competitive high school sports are not about gladiatorial domination; they exist to teach kids teamwork, comradery, promote exercise, and give them a sense of accomplishment. I can think of no better way to accomplish those goals than to compete alongside our trans brothers, sisters, and siblings.

Matilda Sissieretta Jones (b. 1868 in Virginia) was a renowned opera singer who performed at the White House (multiple times), at Madison Square Garden (with Antonin Dvorak), headlined at Carnegie Hall in 1893, & toured the Caribbean, South America, & England.
