A thing I never noticed until passing as a man: When using a limited number of lanes at a swimming pool, people will often self-segregate by perceived sex. At my local pool, the lifeguards recently expanded the lanes when this careful balance got disrupted.

Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have prohibited future governors from handing over abortion providers, helpers, and patients to red states for criminal prosecution. The bill also barred extraditions involving transgender care.

Here's the thing: I don't care about Ed Sheeran or his financial stakes in this. Beyond the obvious, what bothers me is that owners united to censor artistic expression in a way that they don't for any other issue except Israel. They are perfectly fine with artists espousing neo-nazi ideology.

The marriage fight was hard and profoundly frustrating. But the passage of prop 8 didn't invalidate my marriage. The loss of marriage rights isn't the same as having your passport/driver's license revoked and losing access to public spaces, among other things. Is it "maximalist" to say this?

I’m at the Robyn concert at Agannis Arena tonight and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen such an age diverse crowd. 18-80. It‘s not quite as diverse as seeing Jorge Ben Jor in Rio de Janeiro, but it comes close.

I think this is it - and I wrote as much in a newsletter on the Market/Moulton primary a couple weeks ago. "Age" doesn't just mean age. It means being a fighter, not backing down or chasing polls. Markey defeated the "age" rap by showing he had the qualities age is a proxy for & Moulton did not.

So many of the supposed divides in the Democratic caucus simply boil down to "this one will fight for all of us, this one will not" and for the past two years Team Fight is sweeping the board.

There's a certain sci-fi/fantasy novel that seems to be really REALLY popular because it's written for folks who don't normally read novels. And it's popular on BookTok. I do read novels. Many of them. And this book just isn't working for me.
