This is low-level nuclear waste. Not liquid, not green, not glowing. Just lightly contaminated (or not at all) PPE and equipment that gets stored and then squeezed down for permanent storage.

Just so it’s clear: No one in the US Nuclear Industry thinks this is “the kiss of death.” Quite the opposite, actually.

As someone who once co-authored two books in support of nuclear energy: this is likely the kiss of death to nuclear power. It is a risky long term investment that is uniquely dependent on social acceptance. An incompetent, very unpopular government slashing safety rules leads to a reaction.

Project Hail Mary is one of the best science-forward movies I’ve ever seen. Maybe the best. Some inaccuracies/hand-waving here and there, but the spirit of discovery and problem solving shines through in a gorgeous, funny, practical effects-driven epic.
