Analytical AI methods developed by @dbamman.bsky.social help us identify camera distance in onscreen storytelling. But can these technologies account for scale, rooted in distinct story worlds and viewer perception? An interesting problem we’re confronting this summer @bowdoincollege.bsky.social.

Camera movement has existed longer than we might think, with pans becoming common in the 1900s. Early filmmakers also simulated movement. This 1908 fairy tale THE GRATEFUL LITTLE MICE gives the illusion of a zoom by pulling the performers and prop book toward the camera. It's nearly seamless.
