Baihe sorta gets a bad rap from the publishing environment but IMO it's one of those things where restrictions sorta inspire creativity. The way "My Dear Lass" handles kissing is pretty fucking sensual if you ask me.

Hot take: sometimes genre conventions become "tired tropes" when you're dissociationcore reading 50 stories in the same genre. Of course it's going to be stale if you're trying to outsmart the story by viewing it as a collection of tropes, and not a framework for characterization.
I don't mean this to be mean or cruel (it probably is anyway) but a lot of Otherside Picnic fan chat/discussion reminds me of the video essays that Dan Olson picked apart in his Annihilation video
I really like tkmiz manga because of how well they adapt formal surrealism to the medium. Many of their ideas aren't conveyed through narrative, but by the juxtaposition of images and repetition. A lot of the story itself is implied to the reader.
