So excited for the years to come. /s "[T]his Court already has many doctrines designed to protect the Constitution’s separation of powers. ... [W]e face only two ways forward: Let Presidents exercise all those powers or begin subjecting them to the Constitution’s constraints." Gorsuch in Slaughter.
So I'm running to bring a Democrat back to the 14th Court. Hopefully, the scary political case will never come there--but we need Democrats just in case. As a full-time appellate lawyer, I'm the right one for that job. I hope you'll support me. Again: www.adams-hurta.com (full website in progress)

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7." @timmiller.bsky.social talked to a veteran who ICE wrongly detained and brutalized

Our office is again hiring one or more attorneys for a one-year fellowship to work directly with the Illinois Solicitor General and her team, beginning in August/September 2026. www.governmentjobs.com/careers/ilag...
They could use the time they're not spending passing a budget that reinstitutes the constitutional order to codify Bivens.
WOW. Remember this May video of a US citizen wrestled to the ground by ICE agents and detained for an hour despite having a valid REAL ID? It gets worse. Two weeks later, ICE did it AGAIN — handcuffed him and detained him for 20 minutes despite his REAL ID. Now the Institute for Justice is suing.
This is a perfect explanation of why the issue of independent agencies matters: Because it’s about something much bigger—how we understand and implement democratic legitimacy, the idea that we the American people control our government.
to me, the “column” is less a form than an opportunity (and a challenge). you’re telling me i have as much space as i’d like to make an argument about anything i’d like to an audience inclined to pay close attention? well let’s see if they’ll read 2000 words on democratic legitimacy. (gift link)
It is not just that these employees are risking being put on leave or even fired for standing up for science (see EPA/FEMA officials), they are standing in front of a workplace that was the subject of a terrorist attack a couple of weeks ago, by a man who believes what their boss believes.

Moving scene - tears, hugs, and cheers - inside the State Dept HQ last night, as diplomats gathered in the lobby to clap out their laid off colleagues, some of which have served for decades 👇🏻

I have to end this thread with a major shoutout to @sshebaya.bsky.social and @nipnlg.bsky.social, who litigated this case since the family was first arrested in Washington DC. The family have been put through the ringer and NIPNLG deserves support for the incredibly victory they just won for them.
