Continuing my read through this year's Hugo nominees. I've just read Never Eaten Vegetables by H.H. Pak and, wow, I'm still recovering. It's heartbreaking, it's grounded, it's human and intelligent. Man alive, I'd kill to write something that good.

The newsletter this month is all about hellfire, hellish books, hellish short stories, and an exclusive flash fiction piece about a demon who is banished to eternal slumber by a cheese danish. I only update quarterly, so I promise not to spam your inbox!

My next book is gonna have trans characters in it. So will my next short story. I'm gonna read trans authors. I'm gonna hug trans readers. Do not back down. It is the world that should move.

Hugo nominations are open and I need more eligible SFF poems for my ballot. Send recommendations! "A science fiction or fantasy poem of any line length or word count published for the first time in 2025."

Best adjective (really, compound adjective) in the book so far: "ever-ebullient." 🫧 Ebullient literally means boiling or fizzing. Such a perfect word for the character it describes.
