They cannot rescue the food system if it starts to collapse by issuing future food. No one in government seems to have grasped what this means. A horror beyond contemplation, which could happen at any moment.

I am not entirely unsympathetic to the reasons but most social media moderation choices are made to assuage the complaints of "big accounts" and while there are some reasons for that there should also be awareness of it

Arbutus was likely brought by people from the Iberian Peninsula during the Bronze Age, so should probably be described as an archaeophyte, rather than strictly native. However it sits well with the rest of the ecosystem, not damaging it in any way (in very sharp contrast to sika + goats, for eg.).

In the background, an equally majestic ancient yew. No other place in Ireland comes even close to rivalling Killarney for wild native trees.

Good thread but the key of it is: It is actually the government’s responsibility to assure food security for their citizens / residents. They have very much handed this responsibility over to the supermarkets and because profit trumps all, supermarkets have reduced warehouse stocks bit by bit…
