"Reluctantly," a federal judge dismisses the Oath Keepers seditious conspiracy cases. Trump DOJ "excuses criminal acts that caused a centuries-long pillar of our democracy—the peaceful transfer of presidential power—to buckle." "The court cannot write a different ending," he adds. buff.ly/NvVKnaW

This is the last of the prosecutions seeking to hold accountable those responsible for the events of January 6. That book is now closed. Today’s epilogue diminishes the gravity of that day, denigrates the work of the prosecutors and law enforcement officers who secured these convictions, and excuses criminal acts that caused a centuries-long pillar of our democracy—the peaceful transfer of presidential power—to buckle. The court cannot write a different ending.

In a Friday night news dump, Trump DOJ affirms that its prosecution of an innocent Olympian was a cheap stunt to appease and reinforce Trump’s lies about the reflecting pool. Feds move to dismiss. Statement from Davey Hearn’s lawyers

More Comey investigation bloopers: FBI agents scoured their database for any mention of "86" that would support Trump's theory of the case — and got "inconclusive results." The one who applied for the warrants searched the *Gambino* case file for a citation, found none, plunged ahead anyway.

To review, a key witness hated Comey, openly wanted him jailed, disclosed being in "rehab" for unspecified reasons, admitted to knowing nothing but "speculation," and yet supported the defense theory of the case — — until the person found a Rudy Giuliani podcast convincing.

Comey reveals details on Trump DOJ's seashells probe: Feds got warrants by misleading a judge about interviews with "Person 1," an "estranged" Comey associate with an axe to grind, per the filing. This person "only" understood "86" to be restaurant slang—until listening to Giuliani's podcast.

“Even the Mafia says families are off limits.” Freedom of the Press Foundation’s Seth Stern pulls no punches on reports that Trump DOJ subpoenaed NYT reporters’ relatives.

“Even the Mafia says families are off limits. It’s gross that the administration — in its never-ending effort to harass and intimidate reporters who reveal its incompetence — is going after the communications of journalists’ relatives.

The administration’s own guidelines say pursuing journalists is a last resort. But instead, it’s looking for any excuse to snoop on reporters and their relatives, because this has nothing to do with national security and everything to do with chilling journalism. They’re even seeking records from months before the report they claim they’re investigating. The Times’ reporting actually bolstered national security by ensuring that Trump and those who travel with him, including journalists, aren’t flying on an unsafe plane to serve the president’s personal vanity. Trump’s hangers-on should be sending the Times thank- you cards, not subpoenas.”

Critical context about Trump's speech: Trump knew he lost the 2020 election and criminally conspired to subvert it. That conspiracy was based on knowing lies. Not delusions. Not mistakes of fact. Lies designed to preserve and grow his power.

I think the main takeaway here is he’s terrified at the prospect of a Dem majority capable of conducting meaningful oversight and desperate for a pretext to meddle in the midterms.

Blanche got no questions today about insisting that loyalists unlawfully remain as U.S. Attorneys, who are rebuked and disqualified by federal judges. Even though that's been a regular and completely unprecedented feature of his stewardship of DOJ.

Ironically, just as Blanche sought confirmation, the Trump DOJ he leads kept thumbing its nose at the advice and consent process for U.S. Attorneys. Federal judges have rejected Trump's unqualified, unconfirmed loyalists in NY, NJ, NM, NV, & LA. This morning, it was Seattle.
