If anybody was excited that Science Fiction Weekly is aiming to "revive" Daily Science Fiction, you should know they are straight-up lying about having gotten permission from writers to republish DSF stories on their website. (Yes, I have sent a DCMA takedown notice.)

It feels like everything is opt out these days… opt out of llm training. Opt out of having your works stolen and posted on random sites. Consent used to be a thing…

Two of mine were there. These people are not “community” focused and have asked no one.

Hey! If you were published at Daily Science Fiction, be aware that a site called Science Fiction Weekly has stolen the entire story database & posted it on their site. All of my DSF stories are there without my permission. sciencefictionweekly.com

So apparently everything thinks opt out is okay these days. In everything else — it sucks to have your words stolen.

PSA from your friendly neighborhood bookseller: a lot of bookstores are currently finalizing their big Fall '26 orders, so now would be a great time to preorder any new releases coming out in September - December with them. An example from this past week:

This thread was my exact experience as a buyer for an indie bookstore as well. One preorder was "huh, interesting." Two preorders meant I was definitely going to order it in for general stock, possibly enough to put on the front table or to have faced out on the shelf.

We had 1 preorder for a new book coming out this fall (a LitRPG that I can't remember the title of, sorry). Another customer called in a second preorder. That day, the bookstore owner was meeting with the sales rep for that publisher. Seeing we now had TWO preorders instead of one--
