#albumshuffle Day 623: Skitklass - Primitiv Känsla [Break The Records, 2019] Blistering aggressive hardcore from Tokyo. The gimp mask clad quartet play råpunk complete with Swedish lyrics. The whole album clocks in at a little over 18 minutes with no single song lasting more than a minute.
#albumshuffle Day 622: 酩酊麻痺 (meiteimahi) - 存在としての意志 [吐く月,2022] Female duo playing piano/synth and electric guitar while sharing half of the duties on drum kit at the same time. Cycles between dreamy piano/synth driven pop, forbidding ambient spoken word and angular post-punk noisy guitar.
#albumshuffle Day 621: Jad Fair / Tom Recchion / Ant Farm - Slowscan Vol. 4 [Slowscan, 1986] Fun split release. LAFMS member Tom Recchion manipulates tape loops of lounge music, exotica and cartoons with a little keyboard, creating warped psychedelic soundscapes and bizarre fragmentary tunes.
Finally getting around to playing Gossip, just in time for the 1.5 release. So far I've played map 1 and 2; two huge adventure maps in a city block and sewer respectively. On Oscillation difficulty there's ammo and health starvation that makes progress like crawling across broken glass in a good way
#albumshuffle Day 620: Jarana's Four Aces - Vocal Duels From The Streets Of Lima [Topic, 2005] A remarkable afro-peruvian variant of marinera limeña, where two singers engage in a structured duel trading free-form verse back and forth, backed by a two guitars, cajón and handclaps.
#albumshuffle Day 619: Sailorman Jack - Sailorman Jack Sings Sea Chanteys [Not On Label, 1985] Laurence Koback was a colourful fella who would perform sea chanteys at grand central station, was founder and first president of the new york pipe club and ran as a write-in mayoral candidate.
#albumshuffle Day 618: BusRatch - BusRatch [PARA disc, 2000] Turntable quartet from Kyoto using prepared records, odd materials and mutant tonearms exploring the potential of the record player as an instrument. Surface noise, glitchy electronic sounds and manual scratching in dense abstract layers.
#albumshuffle Day 616: Sam Chatmon - Hollandale Blues [Albatros, 1977] Sam Chatmon was a member of The Mississippi Sheiks in the 30s, Rediscovered by Arhoolie's Chris Strachwitz in 1960, he went on to enjoy a renaissance over the next two decades performing at folk festivals and making recordings.
#albumshuffle Day 615: [N-Q] - November Quebec [Esquilo Records, 2006] Electroacoustic improvisations by Keith Rowe, Julien Ottavi, Will Guthrie & Manu Leduc. November is a solo performance by Rowe for a half hour radio broadcast in Nantes. A soundscape of radio static, electric hum, buzz & flutter
I love all of the artwork that Cathy Fishman has produced for various Ftarri/Meena/Hitorri releases over the years. Really lovely collages:
#albumshuffle Day 614: Michiko Ogawa - Solo May/2020 [Ftarri, 2021] Three lengthy drone pieces home recorded during lockdown on a Hammond T200 in need of servicing. The first piece Omote was recorded through the leslie speaker where the drum is audibly grinding as it steadily rotates away.
#albumshuffle Day 613: Lavender Country - Lavender Country [Gay Community Social Services of Seattle, Inc, 1973] The first openly gay country album, penned by Patrick Haggerty and recorded with the assistance of some talented folk affiliated with the Gay Community Social Services org in Seattle.
#albumshuffle Day 612: Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - スカパラ登場 [Epic, 1990] Ebullient ska and jazz from Japan. Big band sound with a powerful horn section but so tightly constructed and cleanly produced. Perhaps the funkiest baby elephant walk i've heard.
tremor was consistently excellent in a way that caught me by surprise. they definitely nailed it with episode 4 too www.slipseer.com/index.php?re...

#albumshuffle Day 611: La Festa delle Rane - Fimfárum [not on label, 2023] Naive folk/pop sounds from Naples taking the form of fairy tale stories of the fantastical Puufuloneta. I'm a simple man easily moved by lo fi production values, mild fragility, a delicate voice and a chord organ.
#albumshuffle Day 610: George Lewis & Miya Masaoka - The Usual Turmoil and Other Duets [Music & Arts Program, 1998] Cracking improvised duets with George Lewis on trombone & Miya Masaoka playing koto. A lot of ground covered, extended technique and a close level of communication.

#albumshuffle Day 609: Whitehouse - Twice Is Not Enough [Susan Lawly, 1992] Early 90s Whitehouse produced by Steve Albini. A much cleaner sound, less of the warbly feedback and EDP Wasp stuff that had by now run its course. Ominous ambient throbbing, noise and high pitched tones dominate as ever.
#albumshuffle Day 608: Dorothy Norwood & The Combined Choir Of Atlanta, GA - The Denied Mother [Savoy Records, 1966] A powerful mix of sermonising/storytelling (title track) and absolute gospel belters (in the morning). A powerful set of pipes and soulful delivery with a fantastic backing choir.
This little project that was supposed to be out in a year is out now, 6 years later. It took a while but it’s great. It’s a whole new full length campaign for Quake with 32 maps and a completely new soundtrack, aimed at being compatible with winquake. I made a few maps for it. youtu.be/ViJMgLNLW08

#albumshuffle Day 607: Various - Folk Music In America: Dance Music - Reels, Polkas & More [Library of Congress, 1976] Part of a fifteen volume set compiled by Richard K. Spottswood for the Library of Congress surveying American vernacular music of the 20th century and the 2nd to appear on shuffle.
#albumshuffle Day 606: Minami Saeki - I .. mean [not on label, 2024] I found out about vocalist Minami Saeki through her collaborations with guitarist Taku Sugimoto. Her delicate vocal contributions were well-matched to his ultra-minimal, abstract approach to improvisation. Some lovely stuff.
