Is the Android community still alive in any social network? Every time I ask about this people say it’s mostly BlueSky but I see people highly inactive here. I wonder if I’m not following the right people

🌍🌐Destination Earth (DestinE) has officially moved into phase 3. DestinE is the EU’s flagship initiative to build highly accurate digital twins of the Earth. Following the completion of the first 2 phases, phase 3 started in June 2026 and will run until June 2028. ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...

Big tech is increasingly running its data centers on behind-the-meter (i.e. not connected to the grid) gas plants and generators to deflect blame from rising energy prices. Not only does this lead to a large increase in pollution, it raises peoples' energy bills anyway. #GreenSky

Behind-the-meter data center gas plants will raise US energy bills

Counterintuitively, it is data centers’ independence from the grid and use of natural gas that will hike energy costs for homes and businesses, write experts from Energy Innovation.

Are we modelling fires properly?🔥 A new study improves how a global climate model sizes wildfire smoke emissions to differentiate between normal fires and extreme fires. To make sure the comparison focuses on real wildfire plumes, the team used data from Copernicus Sentinel-5P: t1p.de/uarz1

Multi-panel scientific figure comparing global wildfire smoke aerosol optical depth (AOD) in 2020: two world maps show modeled AOD (AOD_STAN) and satellite-observed AOD (AOD_VIIRS) with darker shading indicating higher smoke aerosol, plus side plots showing AOD versus latitude and model-to-satellite ratios; boxed regions highlight key fire areas such as the western U.S., South America, and central Africa.

📣 We are delighted to announce the keynote speakers for our workshop on software strategies for sustainable physical modelling: • David Simonin, Met Office • Yannick Tremolet, UCAR • Georgiana Mania, DKRZ • Philippe Marguinaud, Meteo France • Daan Degrauwe, RMI ➡️ events.ecmwf.int/event/529/

Recently we celebrated Trans Day of Visibility, but words alone aren't enough. If you want to apply for GNOME Foundation membership you don't need to provide your legal name, you can use your actual name! We recognise the cruel reality that many trans people's legal names are deadnames. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Trans GNOME logo. Trans flag is a rounded square, with black GNOME logo (foot) inside it. Foot have shadows around it.

Underneath the square there is bold text "GNOME"
