It's been a while since I've posted an essay. And I've been wondering what it means to be "doing enough" as a scientist. This grew out of a busy summer of uncertainty, mentoring, returning to the lab, and remembering why I chose this work in the first place. #AcademicSky 🧪

When doing science is enough

What this summer reminded me about the work of science. This summer has been a series of see-saw events in science: incredibly busy, incredibly challenging, incredibly emotional – but always …

Three more days to comment on NSF's attempt to smuggle in OMB's already-rejected policies of terminating any grant without cause, gutting civil rights obligations and restricting international collaborations. Submit your comment today! Then call your representatives. 🧪

Russell Vought is an evil man. This plan is nothing short of a personal take-over of federal grant making. It will affect ALL of us. Political commissars will now be in charge of all agencies, reporting to him. But we are not powerless. See what you can do below. 1/ www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Russell Vought’s Latest Plan to Gut the Government Should Terrify You

A proposed new rule changing the way the federal government hands out money could be absolutely devastating for every single person in this country.

Kudos to this Seattle teacher taking the vital message of the need for research funding to her high school students and colleagues. Simply appalling that mere mention of DEI should mean cancellation of funds to educate our youth. Let’s hope more of our great educators can carry her message forward.
