We were handing out extra supplies after outreach near the Inside Safe hotel where many of our community members were sent. We ran into someone who we'd lost touch with. He'd been kicked out of the hotel but still hasn't gotten his property, including his phone back.

In the last few weeks, the City conducted two Inside Safe operations in Ktown. A week after getting a room, a friend and member was found dead in it. He left behind a community of friends with questions, and no answers. The same day, the Mayor’s office sent more people to the same hotel.

One of our volunteers received this message about today's Inside Safe operation. The person in question chose transportation over staying with their neighbors, only to lose their community and their independence.
The mayor's office is conducting two Inside Safe operations around Ktown over the next week. Both of these sites have service providers and ongoing casework that has identified specific needs of the encampment and has placements underway. At one location, two people were on a list for tiny homes.
The sweeps in Ktown and the police harassment have gotten relentless. At night, we see so many more people sleeping on sidewalks with just a blanket. No tents, no shelter, no safety. But during the day, they've become harder to find. One couple we know has gotten pushed all the way across Ktown.

there’s an idea floating around that unhoused people have access to infinite resources. but if you ever attended a sweep, you’d quickly realize the state offers the unhoused population violence and little else.

We must be at the "aggressive crackdown" phase of election season. Today we had a huge number of requests for tents, reports of aggressive sweeps & arrests, increased police harassment, and calls from neighbors we couldn't find after displacement. They are hungry, tired, and struggling.

We lost a beloved community member and his partner needs help to pay for funeral costs. One of our volunteers spent months helping her claim her remains. Her spot is scheduled to be swept the day after the funeral and the city refuses to reschedule. If you can help, please do. gofund.me/436b76a18

LAUSD closed off RFK Inspiration Park in Koreatown. There are no plans to reopen it to the public
Public records show encampment removal and fencing were coordinated as the park changed hands, while neighbors say they were left without answers.

Looming cuts to housing and homelessness threaten to undo work that's been doneto get some people housed and healthy. calmatters.org/commentary/2...
Opinion | It took effort to get me off the streets. With funding cuts looming, will I have to go back?
Being homelessness meant taking on damage night after night. Having a roof over my head means I could begin to heal. Now it’s all at risk.

Services need to be built for people who use them, not for people who want unhoused folks out of sight. Warehousing people in settings that are unsafe, have no privacy, and can't support them doesn't work. www.latimes.com/california/s...

One of our volunteers advocated for more trash cans. The nearby encampment wasn't getting enough trash pickup for its own needs, let alone for the illegal dumping it was getting. The city councilmember added several trash cans, a simple, cost-effective alternative to pricey, ineffective sweeps.
40% of people in Inside Safe have returned to the street. The program has spent 300 million. The plan was to house people within 90 days, but stays average nearly a year. www.latimes.com/california/s...

A few of our members arrived to monitor a CalTrans sweep today. CalTrans didn't show up, and it's not clear when they might in the next week. Property will supposedly be held for 60 days, but the number to retrieve that property is blank.
