You cannot reform these events. You cannot negotiate or plan away the ICE presence. The only thing that will stop these events from bringing ICE is to stop bringing these events.
These events are always used as an excuse to remove poor people. Our public spaces are corporatized, privitized, and militarized in the name of counter-terrorism and presenting a clean city to tourists.
The World Cup, the Super Bowl, and The Olympics ALL invite federal security forces, not just near the stadiums to threaten workers inside and out, but at the fan zones, on transit, and throughout our communities.
We visited the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum FIFA Fan Fest tonight.

Earlier this year, we found that spending on policing has skyrocketed by 40% in less than 10 years. Keep that in mind the next time someone tries to scapegoat calls to “defund the police.”
New this week: The FBI published data for 2025 police employment a few weeks ago which shows large police departments have started to grow again following near-uniform large drops post-COVID. jasher.substack.com/p/new-fbi-da...
fascism enacted first on the unhoused will also happen to you
Last week, the Cicero Institute held a conference calling for more arrests of homeless people & subjecting them to forced labor & detention camps. Our recent report shows that its founder has deep financial ties to industries that profit from criminalizing homelessness. filtermag.org/protests-cic...
if politicians wanted to help people, they would have done it by now!!!
Police are never deployed to protect protesters. That's just a fact.
there’s an idea floating around that unhoused people have access to infinite resources. but if you ever attended a sweep, you’d quickly realize the state offers the unhoused population violence and little else.
The clashes at Delaney Hall are becoming a vortex drawing in all sides. Gregory Bovino, former "Commander at Large" of ICE under fired DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, is threatening to go to New Jersey to initiate extra-state fascist street action. All out to Delaney Hall! crimethinc.com/DelaneyHall
Criminalizing people for existing in public is fascism.
the dehumanizing rhetoric people use about the unhoused is just a way to comfort themselves, to mentally separate themselves from actual reality: we are all closer to the streets than we imagine. people experiencing homelessness are workers, parents, children, elders.
And note that "proof of homelessness" almost always means proving that you're living in a shelter or on the street, excluding families living in cars, extended-stay hotels, or doubled up with others.
When "homeless working adults with minor-aged children" becomes a distinct administrative category—not an anomaly, but a recognized population requiring its own eligibility framework—you know something is very, very broken in our society.
This is wild: homelessness is now so intertwined with low-wage work that *proof of employment is actually a prerequisite* for housing programs like this one.
It’s been more than a year since we first demanded @hugoforcd13.bsky.social repeal Mitch O’Farrell’s 41.18 zones. Hugo once compared 41.18 to stop-and-frisk. Now? He‘s defending racial profiling.
LA organizers ‘sweep’ Council member Hugo Soto-Martínez’s home in protest of 41.18. Activists want Soto-Martínez to repeal zones in his district that ban sleeping, sitting and lying in public. lapublicpress.org/2026/05/la-h...

A sweep is a sweep. Enough double speak.
LA city council loves to pretend unhoused people request euphemistic sweeps, while ignoring actual requests which would contribute to their overall health and safety.
