These girls jump like video game characters and eat all my plants, including banana trees. Jungle birds.

Mini bundt cakes for the band bake sale: funfetti and pumpkin spice! I’m no baker (hateee messes), but I’m eager to support my boys’ activities.
I love this piece about what we choose to show and the glimpses we offer up.
My friend John Penoyar was the inspiration for my new story up at Flash Fiction Mag today. It's called "Still Life with Floating Apple." Hope you enjoy it. flashfictionmagazine.com/blog/2026/09...
Perusing this chapbook by @allisonfieldbell.bsky.social in the car during my son’s bass clarinet lesson! I remember when I first read the title story, “Stitch.” Just as powerful with a second reading.
Just ordered this collection! I always enjoy reading her work online. Can’t wait to dig in.

An especially impactful piece for me today. Grief finds me most often driving in the car since that is what my sister and I did together.
"...I learned to take my hands off the grief steering wheel, and to know that it could hit me anytime, anywhere, and would. Grief is out of our control." From "Seven Days in August," new culture nonfiction by Elissa Altman. ➡️ buff.ly/BG8TBJg
When your hen starts making velociraptor noises. (She’s broody. And that’s a compost pile she’s turned into a lay box.)
Love this story by Kate Beall as a buggy summer comes to a close.
“Holding a peach was like being able to bend time and hold your own newborn head, furred and dense and pulsing” A strange & gorgeous story new on hex today—don’t miss “The Summer of Yield and Spoils” by Kate Beall @katebbeall.bsky.social !!
Hello Kitty says to donate blood to the American Red Cross.
My CNF flash piece on the loss of my sister is featured on JMWW today. I hope these words resonate and can raise awareness about DV.
Creative Nonfiction: Merely Missing by Katie Robinson In my dream, you’re still merely missing, your body not yet recovered, and an etching of hope remains that I will find you.
Cricket Cat snuck out the backdoor to enjoy the heat of the bricks.
What are you doing with your Canvas-free, ransom day? I cleaned out my son’s closet and donated his too-small clothes.
I received my sister’s autopsy report yesterday. My sister’s autopsy… She endured more abuse and violence than I realized. Devastated I couldn’t save her. Earlier this week, we selected the winner of her memorial scholarship: $3k to an aspiring nurse. Be the light in darkness.
I was holding this peep close when she hopped up on my shoulder. (Doesn’t the red glow from the heat lamp look like some portal to hell ripped open my spare bedroom? There’s a story right there.)
My sister’s memorial scholarship application is live! Open to HS seniors in Chesapeake, VA who are future nurses! Applicants will compose an essay on domestic abuse. Chelse was a DV victim. She died by gunshot wound in the middle of her forehead on 11/2/25.
This looks amazing! Love the concept! I preordered my copy. ☺️

“In them, he’s smiling. Carefree. Like his whole life’s ahead of him, not behind. And he’s looking forward to living that life.” This beautiful CNF piece hits close to home with the recent loss of my sister.

When you’re mourning, everyone looks at you like you’re a reptile person. I don’t know how to be anything else. I would really like to go be a reptile in a secluded cabin. Or maybe a salamander.
Tonight, I submitted my MFA thesis. Then I made nachos for dinner. Tadaaaa!
