People who know him best say he accomplished the goals he set out for himself when taking the job: never get too high or too low during a crisis, get lots of sleep, max out the pay on his pension.

Frey's letter leaves some unanswered questions for this position. The letter doesn't clearly state that there will be a search for a successor. While that would normally be a given, there has been some talk from council members of eliminating this position.

The council failed to override the mayor’s veto of the denial of the nomination of Toddrick Barnette to serve as Community Safety Commissioner, by a vote of 7-6 (2/3 vote required).
