Our mission is to explore and understand the world of microbial communities in the #environment. https://geomicrobiology.uni-jena.de

Had a wonderful time in Tübingen yesterday! 🌿 Our group leader Kirsten Küsel gave a talk on “Balance of the Groundwater Microbiome” at the @cmfi.bsky.social colloquium. Thanks so much for the inspiring discussions and great exchange!

Great Microbiology Colloquium at CMFI today! Kirsten Küsel (@kuesellab.bsky.social @microverse.bsky.social) shared insights on the groundwater microbiome, plus Kyle Mason-Jones (@unituebingen.bsky.social) on soil bacteriophages. Thanks to all for great talks and discussions!

Another exciting publication from our group this week! First comprehensive insights into viruses in groundwater microbiomes and their role in biogeochemical cycles. Congrats to @adjiep.bsky.social and the team!

Until now, the role of viruses in the groundwater ecosystem was largely unknown, but an international research team including scientists from our @microverse.bsky.social has now provided the first comprehensive analysis of viral diversity and function. ➡️ www.uni-jena.de/en/387310/in...

🎉Congrats to Beatrix on successfully defending her PhD! Her work, “Ancient carbon in sedimentary rocks drives modern groundwater microbiomes,” reveals deep links between geology and microbial life. We’re proud of your achievement and can’t wait to see where your scientific journey takes you next!🪨🧫🌿

Our group leader is currently on a research sabbatical and recently visited the Kostka Lab in Atlanta, Georgia. Together, they went on a sampling trip to Sapelo Island — a unique coastal site and long-term hub for ecological field research 🧪🌊🌿
