I should add that I don't really think of 40 as "later in life" for most people. If that framing hits you wrong, start HRT anyways, 'cause 40 is young. It's just that one of the first things they told me with C-APS was that I should expect complications around 65, so 40 is the 2/3rds mark for me.

One way the trauma of nearly dying comes back to me when I'm having a bad health night is I start to get quiet because I'm afraid I'll say something like "I just... can't seem to get warm," and it'll be the last thing I say. I think I've read too many haunting stories. It's making me sad and weird.
