I had a piece rejected over twenty times. Had given up on it. Did a little work on it this morning and sent it out expecting more of the same, only to be surprised by an acceptance within hours. Really can’t wait to share this one. In the meantime, read some stories over at @eunoiareview.bsky.social

Got a story accepted and went on a 30 mile bike ride. Solid Wednesday.

I’m listening to a writing lecture and the prof says you don’t need time away from writing to refill the well, but to notice things. My daughter is toasting her own bagel (exciting for 5yo) and calls me over to show me that the plastic tie from the bagels is shaped like a bear head. Praxis.

Avoided e-readers for so long. I like the tactile, the feel of the pages, the smell of a used book (mold?). Anyway, got a Kindle and I have to say, as a low-light household (great for aesthetic warmth, bad for reading), I get it now.

Getting an acceptance from Paragraph Planet is the right of passage that graduation (any of them) should have been.

set a goal of 100 rejections this year, and folks, we’re well on our way (the acceptances are nice too)

went through some OLD poetry today and realized what I really wanted was to write micro but, as a poli sci major, was unaware it even existed as a form

Background: our kids go to catholic school because my partner teaches there. Free tuition. Setting: Easter dinner. 4yo convo with her 5yo cousin: Cousin: “Did you know it took 400 people to build Mount Rushmore?” My Kid: “Did you know Jesus fed 1000 people with just two fish and some bread?”

I didn’t write for nearly 12 years. Started up again last spring. Got my first acceptance today. Sadsack millennials still got it. A story of suburban ennui-turned-anger coming your way in a few weeks.

Finished Sad Grownups by @amystuber.com tonight. Talk about a punch to the solar plexus, especially that final story. So, so good (that’s the best review I can come up with after being up since 2am with a pukey 2yo).

After an 8-year hiatus, I starting writing again last spring. I’m now on the third edit of a novel. Treated myself to a new desk to keep the momentum going.

Just finished this. A beautifully brutal novel by @miriamgershow.bsky.social Her ability to find the voices of such a disparate yet connected cast is inspiring. And that final line has shades of Gatsby in its brilliance. Highly recommend to my 4 followers.

After a ten year hiatus from writing, I hit 20k words on a novel today. Nothing matters save for the things we claim as important.Today I claim this (small) victory.

For Black History Month my school had an art competition for work that celebrates black history / culture. One student submitted a digital collage of black heroes: MLK speaking, LeBron dunking, PK Subban hitting, and Tiger Woods’s mugshot.
