Some rare good news: the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) Subcommittee met this morning and approved a bill that strongly supports NIH. The subcommittee rejected the proposed cuts and recommended funding levels 1.35% above its FY26 recommendation.

House Appropriations markup of the FY27 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) bill calls for a 17% cut to NASA Science, 9% cut to NASA Space Technology, a 10% cut to NSF, and an 11% cut to NOAA. Call your reps and ask them to support science.

My view is pretty diametrically opposed to this lukewarm take (surprise) HOWEVER, there is one thing I want to be explicit about: science isn't "political" because institutions endorsed Biden. It's political because Trump et al., 2025 censored scientists. 1/? link.springer.com/article/10.1...

It is very important that people contact CSR and loudly protest this. And not just current study section members. Tell them in no uncertain terms that this will make you unwilling to serve going forward
