I love puzzling out the rhyme and meter of a rhyming picture book whether it happens in drafting or revision. It’s so satisfying when I find just the right combination of words. #kidlitchat
TOPIC: What are your favorite and LEAST favorite parts of your creative process? And how do you keep a balance between "want to" and "have to"? #kidlitchat
So happy that it's finally my turn for a vague post! I can't wait to share more!

Middle Grade Verse Novel Stats 2026 It's my favorite month. National Poetry Month! And of course, I have updated middle grade novel-in-verse statistics to share. In 2025, I included verse novel awards as part of my infographic. This year, I'm not doing that here, but I will be posting each of the…

It's my favorite month. National Poetry Month! And of course, I have updated middle grade novel-in-verse statistics to share. In 2025, I included verse novel awards as part of my infographic. This year, I'm not doing that here, but I will be posting each of the 2025 middle grade verse novels with lists of what recognition they've gotten (and a little bit about why you'd like to read the story in the caption) each day on my…

I love my (picture book) book club. We all sign in to Discord to say hi then disappear for 5-10 minutes to go speed read before we can discuss. #kidlit
Here are the #diversifymyart prompts for March. I was thinking recently how the target age range for picture books matches the age range for when children lose their teeth and yet I hardly see that visible in books. Let's fix that! #kidlitart
Snow falls in fat flakes but the warm earth drinks them up. Kids' wishes deferred. #Haiku

While everyone's here, I thought I'd drop the #diversifymyart prompts for February. I'd love you all to try it! #kidlitart
#DiversifyMyArt prompt for February! I'm only doing a few prompts each month to keep it low pressure. It helps my ADHD brain not give up from being overwhelmed. Feel free to make new art inspired by the prompts or incorporate them into art you're already making. #kidlitart

I tricked my daughter into not shaking her present by saying it was made of glass. It worked but I felt bad so I had her brother tell her I was lying so now she knows she’s getting legos.
A small offering. A poem to get words flowing. Ready to write more. Unapologetically, this #haikusaturday is my warm up because I felt the itch to write. It's been a while, so I needed something to get the words flowing. And now I will go dive into my stories! #kidlit

I have a recurring dream about a large gap in a tall flight of stairs. If I don't stretch far enough or jump or somehow crawl around the edge, I will fall far. But last night, I dreamt I looked at the gap and thought "That's doesn't look too bad. I can do that."
How is it almost September? But that means it's time for one of my favorite themes for #diversifymyart! This month is Style and Bling! Celebrate how we decorate and express ourselves through fashion, jewelry, tattoos, hair, makeup, and more! #kidlitart
