Was sitting on the porch outside the cabin, relaxing after a run, when suddenly a hare ran past in the grass. Ten minutes later it ran past one more time. Then sat nibbling on the grass for a good long while.

Currently 11C up here in the mountains. Forecast is 4C tomorrow morning. We’re very lucky to be able to escape the heat like this

Our cabin is in the middle of a grazing area for sheep and cows, so we get them right up against the wall sometimes. The lambs are very curious, sniff and nibble at everything. Blue plastic over drying firewood, green tarpaulin, metal hinges, wood cover over gas pipe, ... Really everything.

Did a hike from the cabin today, trying a trail we haven't done before, leading to a hill we sometimes ski to (well, past, really). Initially, the path was easy to see, and clearly marked with blue wooden tags.

Such a pleasure to see Argentina not just lose, but be totally outplayed. 120 minutes of World Cup final and only *two* attempts at finishing? Extremely embarrassing. Behaving like total cavemen? Also terribly embarrassing. Good riddance. Shame we had to wait so long for it.

Lovely piece by @larsga on traditional smoky ale and beer. They use wood fires to dry the malt. This is how pre industrial ales could have tasted. Worth reading. They use hops and I specially like the description of the cows eagerness to eat the spent grain. Even when its smoky and mixed with hops.

Thinking about the poor Collaconcho (tired stone). It had been carved and was being transported toward the castle the Inca were building when it tired of the journey. So badly it started crying tears of blood. The Inca left it in that spot, and venerated it.

Scene outside the royal palace in Oslo right now. People are celebrating, because in the end this is a huge win for Norwegian soccer.

Yeah, we lost. But we made it to the quarter finals for the first time ever, then played an absolutely even game with one of the top four teams on the planet. We've had a little bit of luck earlier. Today we had no luck. Fantastic game by the Norwegian team. Absolutely no shame in this.

Went to the shop to buy printer ink this morning, and they seem to be excited about something. Now it’s 1230 Monday, and I’m hearing fireworks.

Norway-Brazil has been over for about two hours, and the sky is slowly beginning to brighten. I live in a small town, but I'm still hearing fireworks. Don't think anyone in this country is getting much done tomorrow.

I live in possibly the most obscure municipality in Norway. This guy was an absolute giant against Brazil. Guess where he comes from? (He describes the win as "childhood dreams coming true". Then: "We've heard about the previous Brazil win for 30 years. Great to do it ourselves.")

Russia has been frozen out of FIFA & UEFA competition since 2022, but its soccer federation is in talks with the US for a "friendly" (even Lavrov has been involved). The Russkies & Yanks haven't played soccer since a 2-2 tie (😴) in Krasnodar in Nov 2012.
