Hey, #STEM Ed Researchers who want to up your quant/stats/measurement game, I’m sorry, but #NSF decided to terminate our methods institute program. I am thankful for the nearly 100 scholars with whom our mentor team has worked! Peace out.

Are you a #STEM Ed researcher, thinking that you want to up your quant/stats/measurement game? Do you want year-long mentoring? We are recruiting our next (possibly final??) cohort! education.umd.edu/academics/de...

I’m teaching a grad class on K12 Education Policy this summer. It’s only taught once every three years, so it’s time for an update. What should future education leaders know about all the changes that are going on? I’m looking for academic articles, long reads, book chapters, videos, etc. Thanks!

“The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is now left with fewer than 20 federal employees, down from more than 175 at the start of the second Trump administration. It’s not clear how IES can operate or even fulfill its statutory obligations set by Congress.” hechingerreport.org/proof-points...

Chaos and confusion as the statistics arm of the Education Department is reduced to a skeletal staff of 3

I’ve decided that I feel grief. I’ve used and studied modeling methods with NCES data since 1992. That’s 33 years. I’m sorry for all of those grieving with me, especially for those who have lost their livelihoods with it. It’s just wrong.

So, a question: for those entities that hold restricted data licenses with an MOU signed w NCES, this SSO wants to know: 1) is it now a free-for-all with these data? Or 2) you should use cease and desist any analysis because there is no longer a suppression review approval mechanism?

Thinking of all those educational researchers who may find themselves unemployed soon. I hope this could be a silver lining of the #EduSky storm.

One more I would add for those who are out of work and used to teach. Apply for a leave replacement teaching job. It is a way to help temporarily, even substitute teachers are needed. I did a #schoolpsych leave replacement in 2023 and it changed my thinking for the better. It was a midlife gap year.
