I write epic high fantasy with nostalgic heroism, elemental magic & yearning romance for people who prefer a little sublime melancholy with their tea. 🫖 Website: https://laurelgrantfantasy.my.canva.site/

I have a duology WIP that’s only in planning stages. It takes place thousands of years before my main series, at the dawn of the modern era right after the Titans abandoned the realm. It’s a dark Romantasy enemies to lovers - he’s a necromancer, she’s a white witch, ready to be corrupted…

#WIPLash #WritingCommunity The rest of my series. But mostly the sequel to Savage as You. It's next in line to write and I'm itching to draft it out and decide exactly what ideas I'm keeping and tossing. It's going to be the most unhinged thing I've ever written and I'm here for it. Soooon.

"You were my undoing, and I am to be yours." MM Romantasy 107k Vengeful courtesan Kresimir Zaheriev has his eyes set on killing the King. The King has plans to make Kresimir one of his secret magic investigators. Both get more than they bargained for. #Cupit #RF #LGBT

"The Iris and the Aconite MM Romantasy" "You were my undoing and I am to be yours" photos on a background of ripped and wrinkled paper. Left to right, top row: a ripped photograph (half shows the ML, half shows the MC), someone holding a crown, a poison vial. Second row: a castle in a round picture frame, two hands reaching for each other, and two people embracing each other. Lastly, a photo of a man on top of another man, choking him “Aren’t you a wealth of knowledge?” Kresimir crossed his arms. “What does this have to do with anything? Or are you trying to rub it in my face that my parents might’ve been a pair of pyromaniacal cultists?”
The King gave him a tired look, his eyes widening slightly, his brows dipping. “You really believe the worst of me, don’t you, my friend?”
      “We’re not friends.”
“We are most definitely something tangential to friendship.”
“I believe those are called allies. Acquaintances.”
      “We had drinks together.”
“Because I wanted to kill you, you stubborn fool!” They were close enough to feel each other’s breath now. An inexplicable urge to close the gap surged in Kresimir, potent as his irritation.
“I’m stubborn?” the King asked in disbelief.
The doors to the office creaked open, and they jumped apart, Kresimir’s heart racing from more than vexation.

Nerissa tells herself that it’s justice & absolution she’s after when she abandons home to save her best friend from Fae abductors — but it’s also the perfect excuse to avoid Andris’ betrayal. Joining the fray could win her trust back, but Andris has no idea the cost. #cuPit #fantasy #FR

#agentsguide to BEYOND THE MIST 🌊 What if it wasn’t curiosity that pulled the little mermaid out of the sea, but guilt? ⚓️ morally grey protagonist 🔥 female rage & 💔 🩸 assassination plot 🗡️ rescue battle 🔮 discovery of magic 🫶🏼 found family #querying #litagents #writercommunity #author #fantasy

Help me decide if I am pitching my book in the right genre. The romantic subplot isn’t in the query letter, but it is a running thread in the novel. It isn’t the crux of the conflict and the protagonist’s journey, but there is definitely a romantic subplot. Fantasy, or fantasy romance? #querying

“Slowly, as the ringlets of light took root, took comfort in her wounds, they began lighting her up everywhere. Her scars began to glow like lightning bolts all around her, her open wounds filling with bright holyfire, cauterizing them and mending them.” #febchantment day 7!

#Febchantment Day 7 It's Snippet Saturday! Share a snippet from your story which features a particularly impressive or awe-inspiring use of magic! If you don't have any scenes written yet, feel free to share ideas for a future scene featuring impressive magic! #writingcommunity #writesky

I’m heavily influenced by Tolkien alone and his imprint on World of Warcraft, DnD, and a various folklores. I like soft magic in my own reading, so the magic is mostly that, but elements of hard magic comes from my own experience with MMORPG gaming mechanics.

#Febchantment Day 6 Tell us about why you developed this magic system! What drew you to the concepts? Why did you choose to make it the way you did? Were you inspired or influenced by any other works? #writingcommunity #writesky

One must have an ancestor who traveled to Galdramur when the early magics were wild, untamed and unbound, so their bloodline was imprinted with the magical ability. In Glynea, the mortal kingdom, only holy knights can wield magic by royal decree. Galdramuran magic is outlawed and warded against.

#Febchantment Day 5 Tell us about who can wield magic in your world! Is it available to everyone, or only a special few? Is it a gift you're born with, or a skill you can learn? Is the knowledge gatekept in some way? Don't forget to read & interact with others! 😁 #writingcommunity #writesky

Different species of Arden: (1) Elven, (2) Humans, (3) Dwarven: the First species Fae: descendants of crossbred First species 2/3 with 1 Magi: any spec. whose bloodlines became “infected” with Galdramur’s airborne magical essence in the First Age; now, those who practice/study a discipline of magic

There are various classes of magic - elemental, atomic, regenerative, temporal, necromantic, runework, etc. what you have is based entirely on bloodline, and they’re regionally organized for the most part. It is extremely rare, if at all heard of, to possess multiple classes of magic …

#Febchantment Day 3 What is the central concept of your magic system? E.g. Elemental magic? Music magic? Name-based magic? Something else? (Note: this isn't the "source" of magic - that's Day 8!) If you already answered this previously, feel free to go into more detail! #writingcommunity #writesky

#Febchantment prompt for Feb 3:
"What central concept is your magic system based on? Examples: elements, music, true names"

Arden’s magic is jelly. There’s a structure but it’s softer magic than Sanderson’s. Magic supply is in the blood and is based on demand - the more you use the more you make. Use too little and you’re septic. Use too much and you’re dehydrated. There are specific classes of magic and their users.

#Febchantment Day 2 Do you have a "hard" or "soft" magic system? In other words, does your magic system have strictly defined rules (think: Brandon Sanderson's books)? Or is it more undefined, mostly vibes/rule of cool (think: Gandalf from LOTR)? Somewhere in between? #writingcommunity #writesky

#Febchantment prompt for Feb #2:

Is your magic system "hard" (i.e. with clearly defined rules) or "soft" (mostly vibes)?

The world of Arden was created by six Titans with infinite magic of varying nature - be it elemental, regenerative, temporal, atomic, or rune spell work. The magic inherent to a species depends on the Titan bloodline one’s a descendant of. There are also regions that have outlawed magic for … most.
