An excellent article; well-crafted and enlightening. I found the comment by Farid, an expert who investigates deepfakes, compelling: “The companies, he says, “will burn the fucking place to the ground.” A strong, if not surprising, sentiment made by an expert in the field.

How are AI images and videos changing the world we live in? How can we even still tell what is real and what is not? In an effort to find out, I visited Hany Farid, „sort of the dean of digital forensics“, for a couple of days in Berkeley. It was eye-opening. My story in @science.org 🧪

Scientists have discovered a tiny blue octopus lurking beneath the waters near the Galápagos Islands. About the size of a golf ball, the newly identified deep-sea species was found nearly 1,800 meters below the surface during an expedition in the Pacific Ocean.

Had two creative days with friends making stained glass yard art. I made a jellyfish for my son the oceanographer. The other photo is just some of the other creations made. Art with friends is highly appreciated and recommended right now.

Artist holding yard art made of stained glass that looks like a jellyfish. Friends holding their newly created stained glass yard art creations. One art piece a moth and the other is a fish.

This is NOT AI. These are green dragontail butterflies (Lamproptera meges), native to S & SE Asia. They compensate for undersized wings with long 'swallowtails' to generate lift. Butterflies that fly in cursive, swimming like fish through the air. (📷: Center for Biological Diversity)

Printing w/ my husband & awesome helper, (we make a good press team!). When using a treadle, even on a well-oiled platen press, we oldies get worn, so I appreciate him running it too. These are simple notecards on 220lb cotton paper using a transparent tint. The deboss of the flowers “chef’s kiss”.

Let's meet Micromelo undatus, also called "miniature melo", a species of "bubble shell" sea snail. She's got a little art deco backpack! These snails live in shallow waters at locations around the world (Hawaii, South Africa, Japan).

Made stained glass yard art gifts for my family & friends. Due to finances, it was a homemade holiday. The materials were from my mom’s former stained glass studio (she’s retired). Her old studio is now my design/illustration/letterpress shop. Now thinking of making it a homemade holiday every year.
