in fact a bigger deal in oregon politics is the “salem bubble” where talking about portland is considered illegitimate and you have to pretend the rest of the state subsidizes portland rather than the other way around

Saw a local paper paraphrase a Republican candidate who talked about "the Portland bubble," in reference to the rest of Oregon. Folks. The Portland Metro (minus the parts of Washington state that are counted as part of the metro) is 47% of Oregon's population. Half is not a "bubble."
