AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL Dear Lead Activist As you may well have seen, Amnesty International UK recently made a public apology for the publication of the briefing "A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK". This document should never have been published, and full responsibility for this error rests with Amnesty International UK.The briefing was taken down shortly after publication, was not actively promoted, and will not be republished. We have an ongoing internal investigation into how this briefing came to be published. As part of this process, we have also withdrawn an earlier more discursive briefing, "Like a Snowball," which similarly referenced a wide range of organisations. AIUK holds itself to the highest standards of research, evidence and editorial oversight in all its publications. We have concluded that this briefing does not meet those standards. We will commission an independent external review to learn from this moment to ensure our work meets the high standards expected of us and of the wider Amnesty movement.Amnesty International UK is deeply committed to our work on gender justice. Private prison corporations donate to Trump's campaign & inauguration. In return they receive huge government contracts to run detention centers. Their bottom lines get a major boost while Trump's brokers simultaneously buy their stock. It's a cruel and vicious cycle.

I touched on this at the end of my piece, but one thing I find shocking about May Pollard's death, speaking as a reporter, is that it took two months after knowing a major trans lawsuit had been dropped due to the suicide of one of the teen plaintiffs and knowing May Pollard's name.

The story of a trans girl who tried to fight Idaho's anti-trans laws, and died to suicide earlier this year, is only now coming to light. Our hearts are broken, but we need to tell these stories and mourn our dead, because the media is barely bothering to look for the victims of trans genocide.
