Not an unknown issue within sports policy—the FATF were talking about this in 2009. The FIFA Clearing House should have gone some way to reducing this risk. For English football particularly, this is within scope of the Independent Football Regulator, & more reason to welcome it.

The issue, often, with complaints about the restrictions imposed by PSR/FFP etc is that they focus on microprudential risk. Yes, you could do away with through collateral given by investor owners (etc or whatever), but it doesn’t address the fundamental issue.
