I love all creatures, but especially cats

I have lived long enough to see Arabs and Palestinians go from being the cartoonish bad guys in a James Cameron movie to being the sympathetic but antagonistic Other in a Steven Spielberg movie to embodying the soul of what it means to support equality in America This has been decades in the making

I'm Canadian, so I can't tell you what to do about America's problems, nor should I be expected to. But finding a way to organize within your community is a good start. There are many opportunities. I don't expect the US left to storm the Capitol (though that would be cool).

I'm very supportive of the anti-Trump US left, but I'm tired of Americans posting "Trump doesn't represent us", "we aren't all like this" or attempting to apologize on America's behalf. I'm not here to salve your conscience. If you disagree with Trump's policies, shut up and do something about it.

This is a bill intended to be put to debate in the American upper house. You can't pretend this doesn't represent you, or it's unfair to blame you for what your elected representatives are doing. At least have the self-respect to own it.

Folks, we’re doing the reverse Pol Pot bigger and better than we’ve ever seen it before. We’re gonna make D.C. a state, the only state actually. 350 million patriots will all be living in one big beautiful complex of pods connected only by a series of the best tubes, maybe ever.

I'm the furthest thing from a Canadian nationalist, but comments like this fill me with white-hot rage. We do not owe courtesy to the US, and your average Canadian is in a *far* more stridently anti-US mood than PM Carney. And there's a very good reason for that.

Dan Seitz@dseitz.bsky.social · 3w ago

To be fair, some of this is self-inflicted. Way too many Canadians on here are talking the same nationalist shit us Americans were spouting after 9/11, and frankly Carney isn't helping anything, either.

There's only so many times you can repeat a gotcha question or a talking point like "does Israel have a right to exist?" before public figures like Mamdani or El-Sayed figure out an effective way to answer it.

Woke 1 went "too far" in that it over-relied on language policing and making an example out of random nobodies. It was largely a liberal individualist tendency for the social media age. The moralizing and scolding was the sign of a rudderless, powerless left that could not make structural change.

I'm probably not going to read this because it doesn't interest me. But the post, article title and image are deliberately provocative to stir controversy and get attention. It's silly for the author to cry "Oh no, why are people dunking on me when they clearly didn't even read the piece? :'( ".

The US violated international law in attacking Iran. To uphold that law, it needs to lose this war. I'm sorry for Americans for whom this causes uncomfortable feelings. We're the Russians in Ukraine here.

People sometimes use the three arrows and the Antifa flags interchangeably as anti-fascist symbols. Maybe it's a pedantic and superficial observation, but these symbols aren't really compatible. Antifaschistiche Aktion was communist. The Iron Front (three arrows) was anti-communist.
