A core reason why Farage and other far right leaders have managed to pretend they are the voice of the "left behind" is because of the classism of the media, political and academic elite Diverting attention on the far right and blaming it on the working class has been very useful to prevent change

Guardian headline:
Nigel Farage is a political fraud ‘cosplaying’ as working-class champion, TUC chief says

Exclusive: Paul Nowak acknowledges voters’ frustrations but says Reform UK hasn’t got the answers, and urges Keir Starmer to resist any move to the right

Your bills are going up because this government would rather protect the profits of a few corporations than the livelihoods of millions of ordinary people. End this outrageous rip-off, and take water and energy into public ownership now.

I do not need to read an auto biographical essay opining the brilliance of jacket potatoes. I already know they are amazing, that’s why I want to eat one!?!?! I just need to know how long to put it in the microwave and the air fryer. GIVE ME STRENGTH.

I’ve been wondering whether I’m getting too sucked into US politics and how helpful that is to my own activism etc. Then, yesterday I actually got confused about which BBC headlines referencing horrendous cuts to government departments were in the US and which were in the UK 😳

£6 billion in cuts to welfare & disability benefits that will push 700,000 into poverty — instead of taxing the super-rich. Spending on weapons of destruction — instead of helping the world’s poorest. These political choices are cruel. This isn’t the “change” people voted for.

Incredible event hosted at church yesterday, celebrating the women of Palestine for IWD. Talks, handicrafts, music, workshops, food and dancing. Such a joy to work with brilliant local women to bring it to life. My hearts is full 🥰

Ok, don’t know if it’s just because the algorithm just doesn’t know what else to give me but 20/25% of my feed on here is cats. Even though I keep clicking “show me less cats” I have nothing against cats, I’m just not that into them in the way Bluesky seems to think I am… anyone else?

I read a reimagining of Colossians to my church community today. In case anyone else needs to hear: “Do not let people tell you that empathy is a sin. As God’s children – sacred and beloved – wrap yourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience…

prediction: the nazi salute thing is gonna be like israel bombing hospitals: it's really, really obvious that it happened, and at first they're gonna be like "no way! that didn't happen!" and then they'll keep doing it and stop pretending like they don't do it on purpose.

You have got to admit it is kind of funny that Mark Zuckerberg did all this stuff to curry favor with Trump only for Trump to save TikTok

Nothing about yesterday’s march on BBC homepage all day, certainly no mention of horrific police violence. 100,000 people protesting a war we’re complicit in isn’t newsworthy. Now Corbyn and Macdonald are being interviewed it’s the 5th story… Not surprised, but it still makes my blood boil!

A Paradise Built in Hell was one of the most impactful books I read last year. I’ve thought about it every day watching reporting from California. People are good, we know how to care for each other. Don’t let politicians or media tell you otherwise. (Thanks for the tip off @margaret.bsky.social!)

Today I lead the morning service at church, went to someone’s new flat for lunch to do a house blessing and lead compline on zoom in the evening. What a weird and beautiful job I get to do 🥰

Most religions will simply not make sense when viewed through the lens of an oppressor. They only make sense through the lens of the oppressed. Religion and empire simply do not and can not mix. They are antithetical to one another. It always ends in violence.
