She was dying, slowly thanks to Ryne’s work, and becoming a Lightwarden.

“I suppose you would know about stagnated aether,” she sighed, blinking back tears. One hand reached out from under the blanket cocoon and pushed aside the pale blue bangs from Haurchefant's closed eyes. Part of her quietly hoped her cold fingers would have startled him awake.

It had been two and a half years, however, since he had fallen into the coma. This room had existed in a place outside of time since, the only indication any time had passed being the flowers which were replaced weekly as they wilted. Every time Emi returned, it felt as though she were stepping into a time capsule of that day.

Until something else changed with this visit. Haurchefant's sentinel had disappeared, and Emi had not the time to linger and wait for him to return, or to wait for the morning and ask Aymeric where Estinien had disappeared to.

She wrapped her fingers around one of Haurchefant's hands, pulling it against her chest under the blanket. Even in endless slumber, he was still the warmest presence in her life.
