Using cross-sectional data in communication studies remains common. While we now consciously acknowledge that correlation does not imply causation, how might the most classic media effects theories evolve with longitudinal data?

One of my students talked about 'qualitative content analysis'. Coming from communication studies from HK, UK, and the US, I have never learned of this. Could anyone point me to any authoritative source on this method?

Just read a paper whose author claimed that Taiwanese gay men who want to get married, but whose mainland Chinese boyfriends don't (or can't), are marginalizing Chinese gay men and imposing a Western ideology.
