I, Too, Am Begging You to Read Terry Pratchett
Ankh-Morpork, the beautifully chaotic city-state where many of the late Terry Pratchett’s beloved Discworld novels take place, has a beggars’ guild. It’s basically a protection racket: if you don’t wa...

My friends have a band called "ABUSES" and it is in competition on the Latvian radio station NABA. If you could throw them a vote, that would be lovely! If you open the expanded view, you can listen to the songs in the list. www.naba.lv Scroll down lower left...
Rīga’s courtyards still keep giving cuteness and quaintness. I’ve found orchards tucked away in the city centre, places where time seems to have stood still for a century and all you can hear is a woodpecker.
Oh, my band, Abuses, released a new single this week! Going for a Sonic Youthy vibe…

Warm evenings in Rīga mean late evenings spent drinking outside of bars. So many gigs happening at the moment: Zan Hoffman, Stuart Ironside, Hochiwah, Edgars Rubenis, Abuses (my own band), plus loads more. Plus Rīga Art Week! It’s a full calendar of Culture.
Rīga Spring evenings in the rain. Every courtyard hides secrets. This is in the centre of the city, you just need to turn the right corner.
Whilst I'm feeling chatty, things I've been enjoying recently: Long weekend hikes (32.5km on Saturday and 14km on Sunday) - great for mental health, as a the trope goes. Miles Davis Spring in Rīga Spring cleaning my guitars in prep for a few gigs. A lot of film watching (51 so far this year)

Vinyl nights at KKC, one of many culture bars in Rīga. Here, Ieva Balode of the Baltic Analog Lab played an eclectic selection of tunes from her record collection. Rīga is blossoming in Spring!
It’s never boring in Rīga. I caught my second Acid Mothers Temple gig of this current tour in my, now, home town. Once again they rocked! A fascinating band that seem to have perfected the endless tour.
I never expected Les Rallizes Dénudés to reach the Guardian.
‘My body ached from the volume’: the mystery and majesty of Japanese noise-rockers les Rallizes Dénudés
The incendiary Japanese group who emerged out of late-60s unrest were suspicious of studios so their legacy was long left to bootleg obsessives. But unheard recordings are revealing their lesser-known...
