the person with the "ai haters: if all ai disappeared tomorrow could you make it through an entire workday without it" post really accomplished generational bait, it keeps popping up

been trying to use vscode instead of my previous "20 free floating terminals with vim in them" workflow. you can tell how great it is going by how often I realize I've been editing files in vim inside the vscode terminal for the past five minutes.

i've been really tempted to compose an unhinged linkedin post along the lines of "performance improvement plans famously work so well for problem employees, that's why we've decided to expand them to our top performers for even greater gains"

Wikipedia having to rip out hundreds of thousands of archive links bc the archive was run by a completely unhinged person is such an old-school internet story tbh, we generally do unhinged at a much larger scale, now.

sad seeing programmers post about learning projects they just finished with the writeups looking indistinguishable from chatgpt. i hate the idea that 'enthusiastic llm' text structure/phrasing is so prevalent that it's influencing people's own writing style.

personally i love to send a clear photograph of my government id to random extremely trustworthy companies i have never heard of on the internet. but dont worry! theyre third parties. so the services i use dont share any liability when they inevitably get breached

Stranger's grocery order got misdelivered to me. Their address was just a few streets over, so I bicycled there, rang the doorbell. and handed the bag to a very reserved young person. As I was getting back on my bike, the most joyfully exuberant shout of "CUCUMBER!!" came muffled through the walls.

Please quote this with stories of your minor interactions with non-celebrities, e.g. “I once accidentally bumped into a man in the Wellingborough branch of Holland & Barrett”

was in the midst of wordsmithing an elaborate reply to someone who probably didn't want to hear from me about a topic that likely didn't need my input and then my laptop just randomly shut off. failing hardware has got my back.

Spending two years trying to get a save game file for The Hunter out of Nvidia's cloud gaming platform, and finally succeeding by changing item names in a loadout to their own name and address so it was classed as personal data, then filing a GDPR Subject Access Request to get hold of it. Twice.

my current xscreensaver unlock routine is ctrl-alt-f1, log in on new console, systemctl --user restart xscreensaver, ctrl-d, ctrl-alt-f7. I'm sure someone will fix the pam thing but in the meantime I've never felt more in tune with the unix philosophy

seems like another all-to-understandable clash of expectations between the "sharing what I'm tinkering on with others on github is fun!" crowd and the "surely everybody else in the world is also getting paid six figures to ensure five nines on my app" crowd

i think if you fail a captcha there should be a button where it rings up a live google engineer who you get to drag into a completely pointless argument about what it means for a square to have a traffic light or a bicycle

as much as i enjoy reading the commentary by lawyers in long bluesky threads, i cannot emphasize enough how dearly i wish i wasnt seeing as much commentary by lawyers in long bluesky threads

spent enough time being low key frustrated at a firefox thing today that a half remembered quote eventually burrowed to the forefront of my mind and i had to download some scraped dump from archive dot org to make sure i had it right

half hoping for bsky to turn to shit soon so we can stop talking about how the app that's still in the happily-burning-money phase is less user hostile than the desperate-for-profitability incumbents

is there a polite way to be like "hey i noticed ____ doesn't post on the discord anymore, did they just like drift away or did i miss the formal excommunication for fucked up behavior"

it's probably somewhat damning of the trajectory of my mental state that pretty much since they invented 3d printers ive been going "i can think of so many useful things i want to print, i need to get around to that as soon as im doing a little better"
