I’m not sure whether this is just a psychological difference or AI bros fundamentally don’t understand the nature of an artistic experience, but: I don’t want a personalised film/book/podcast. I want to see/read/hear the same one as everyone else, so I can read reviews or discuss it with my friends

ANTHROPIC: Our son loves humanity and for the low price of trillions and trillions of dollars will usher in an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity! OPENAI: Our horrible oafish son is hacking web sites without our permission. ANTHROPIC: (eyes narrowing) Our son is also evil

The Bird of Washington, plate 11 from John James Audubon's "The Birds of America." The most (in)famous "mystery bird" in the volume. In a tome with hundreds of meticulously detailed and recorded birds, it's strongly suspected John just... made this one the fuck up. But WHY. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT.

What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story

We're in the era of incompetence & cybercrimes headlined as "unprecedented model capabilities gone rogue." So OpenAI & Anthropic are trying to one up each other with such incompetence because the "press release as a service" performing media & clueless politicians parrot pre IPO CEO talking points.

showing the time to the nearest 100ms does make the countdown feel faster but i can’t help but feel there might be better ways to get people to download your app. (not to mention this was an affiliate link! it’s like they want people to bounce)

interstitial screen on diy.com: “have you downloaded the B&Q app?” with a button “Open in app” and a 10s countdown below now showing “continue to website in 4.4s”

i’ve figured out what i find so grating about reading claude’s prose output: its tendency to assign names to absolutely everything, including where human writers don’t and rely on context or “you know what i mean”. now, i get why it does this, and it is useful when talking back to it, but still… ick

Hey, that's a nice [THING YOU DO FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE], be a real shame if somebody were to [CONVINCE YOU TO MONETIZE IT, TRANSFORMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP INTO AN OBLIGATION AND ROBBING YOU OF JOY]
