The problem here is that prices have shot up for basic routes while services have gone down. This affects me more than going to Sri Lanka. Why is the same flight from DC to Boston is 3 times more expensive than 15 years ago and my family can’t sit together for free.

Also like, yes, air travel is less "luxurious" than it was decades ago, but also now you can get to far flung parts of the world often for just a few hundred dollars. Guess what most ppl actually prefer?

This thing about families asking people to move on planes is entirely the airline’s fault and it doesn’t seem like we talk about it enough. You shouldn’t be asked to move when you board a plane, I shouldn’t have to pay extrafor contiguous seating. This is cash grab, not customer service.

A basement room with blue walls. In the middle of the wall is a large brick wall painted pink. To one side the brick has a round hole in it filled with brown insulation. In front of the wall is a square area in the carpet that is tan brick. To the left of the pink brick section is a blue panel which sticks out from the wall. The place most likely had a fireplace in it at one time but now there's just enough emptiness that the whole thing looks vaguely ominous.

Justice moves slowly. In 2019, Timbs v Indiana settled whether states are bound by the excessive fines clause of the 8th Amendment (they are). Now, 7 years later, comes the chance to determine what an excessive fine is.

The Supreme Court just took up a case (Jouppi v. Alaska) that asks whether prosecutors violated the 8th Amendment's bar against excessive fines when they confiscated a pilot's private plane (worth $95,000) after he unknowingly flew a passenger's beer into a dry town. ij.org/case/alaska-...
