“I asked ChatGPT, I asked Grok” Yeah well I asked a Halo 3 lobby and they all said you’re a dumb bitch
I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.
❤️ Gillian Green, publisher at Tor Bramble, told The Bookseller: “HM Wolfe has confirmed that Daggermouth was written entirely without AI. We stand behind our author, and we do not recognise third-party AI detection tools as a fair or reliable measure of authenticity when used on their own.”
I'd like to find a David Lynch "fix your hearts or die" shirt, but would rather find one that benefits trans folks, not some random Etsy or Redbubble. Anybody know of such a thing?
Saw the new Spider-Man and I'm mystified at what Disney marketing is doing. The post-credits teaser was a complete nothingburger. Avengers Doomsday is in six months. They didn't even run a trailer for it before the showing!! We got a teaser for Jumanji which also releases at Xmas. I don't get it.
Let's do this! I wasnt going to start the pre-launch campaign until Sept 8, but with today's news, I need to have some fun! This the pre-pre-launch. Give a number (1-230) and I'll give you a sentence. Click that Notify Me On Launch button! (Coniah Edgar is me) www.kickstarter.com/projects/jul...
Coming soon: Chasing Cars: A Novel
A coming-of-age novel, based on the author's experiences, about an autistic pregnant trans teen boy in the Canadian foster care system.

During the pre-launch campaign in the weeks leading up to the Kickstarter for CHASING CARS, I was thinking of taking a page out of @peterclines.com's book and posting random sentences based on page numbers you all tell me. Sounds like fun?
You'll likely know @tomhumberstone.com from various things (his comic on the Luddites went large), but he's got a new one on the Gig Economy, couriers, the history of all that, specifics of exploitations and the fight against that. Read it, and spread it around. Strong. tomhumberstone.com/just-work

I said "oh my god I could make a banana slug purse!" Here's a dramatic reenactment
Omg I could do a banana slug
the primary reason people use websites like this one is to post things and feel validated by the number going up, and i wish we would all be a little more honest about that when using a public social media feed to hash out minor disagreements
Honestly give it up to Gencon this year they finally found a way to make everyone take a fucking shower.

Friends, I've been in this business quite a while, and been on panels at many conventions. But I've never had a literal tornado warning in the middle of a panel cause a group from another panel--about writing sex--to have to shelter in our room. And OUR panel topic, you ask? Improvisation. :D
I waived my usual modeling fee to bring you all this.
We got the cutest crocheted tree skirt. Look at that colour work!!
The only creative industry that is inarguably both doing well and doing great work right now is "new baseball guy names."
Jhomnardo Reyes is going to the Orioles for Dean Kremer, per source.
@aghastronaut.com it's Lurch's birthday. I hope you wore extra tall shoes in the show tonight
Ted Cassidy (July 31, 1932 - January 16, 1979) as Lurch on The Addams Family.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
🕙🕥🕚Today is the FINAL DAY for this charity bundle supporting designer Rae Nedjadi after a serious illness and extended hospital stay. Get over $285 worth of games for just $25! A terrific collection of TTRPGs, and 98% of each purchase goes directly to Rae. www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/5...
I realized one of the reasons this bothers me so much. For those of us who aren’t cis white men, we’ve already had to spend our art careers proving our worth and now we have to also prove that we aren’t robots over and over. It’s another exhausting burden. So maybe take that into consideration.
The way suspecting genAI use has turned artists against each other feels so disheartening lately. We all have to be sus these days (and never trust large corps) but we also shouldn't go so hard other way that we treat everyone as guilty til proven innocent. You don't always have to assume the worst.
"One lawyer I spoke to, after reading through the statute, wondered out loud whether the Minnesota legislature had deliberately drafted it in the dumbest way possible just to guarantee a successful challenge. That’s how poorly the law was drafted." 🙃
The Worst Person You Know Just Filed A Good First Amendment Lawsuit Against A Very Badly Drafted Nudify App Ban There's been a bunch of news this... https://www.techdirt.com/2026/07/30/the-worst-person-you-know-just-filed-a-good-first-amendment-lawsuit-against-a-very-badly-drafted-nudify-app-ban/
you know the tide is turning when the most corporate, self-lubricating site on the internet drops a button like this
The new “⚠️Seems like AI slop” button on LinkedIn is sending me into orbit lmao
People really do not understand that Hollywood is a working family industry. Celebs are a sliver of the work but the majority of the pay. Everyone else is making regular dollars at a mystery pace and trying to keep their health insurance quarter to quarter.
People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...
A THREAD. This week lots of my friends will be driving cross-country to Indianapolis for Gen Con, a big gaming industry convention. They'll also be driving home - and they're way more likely to be exhausted! This seems like a good time to pull out my semi-annual standard advice to keep you alive.
Mischief Game Store, a game shop from St. Paul who stepped up during the recent ICE incursions in Minnesota, received the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming. Congrats!
Abby and Riley are at #GenCon2026 in Indianapolis where we've just (improbably!) been awarded the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming. We are overwhelmed and extremely grateful for receiving this high honor. Thank you to all!! ❤️
There is also the very real fact that focusing your actual energy onto a single issue is almost always more effective for change. Being the person who is informed about it, knows how to set up actions that others can help with, this means you can do things that just being mad about 50 things can’t
99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa
If I won the lottery I would hire an interior designer and just say “Columbo murderer” while waving my hand around my home office.
