Using this as a jumping off point... It all depends on the definition of "moderate," which for less engaged has little to do with policy. Bob McDonnell and Glenn Youngkin were rabid nutcases from a policy standpoint, but looked like friendly suburban guys, ergo moderate.

I keep arguing that Dem leadership (Schumer, Jeffries, etc.) are stuck in the 90s, as are many of the high profile Dem consultants and advisors. They think most voters are de facto moderate. This is why their thinking is outdated:

mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not

Perhaps a bit harsh to argue The Odyssey has *nothing* interesting to say about time, but the Wilson review is a marvelous study in the superficiality of the middlebrow.

We had generally been hearing less mention of tariffs in qual, as the war in Iran got more blame for rising prices. Quite helpful of Trump to remind voters as we head into the heat of the cycle.
