When you're an athlete, climate impacts can hit hard. But for many, awareness also catalyses action! I asked two pro soccer/football players to give me their first-hand accounts in Talking Climate this week ⬇️

No Tenure for Oklahoma. Instead, faculty will be on "renewable contracts “tied to teaching effectiveness, student completion, job placement, and economic alignment.” #academicsky
Tenure Will Be Eliminated at Most of Oklahoma’s Public Colleges, Governor Says
Gov. J. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, directed the state’s two-dozen regional universities and community colleges to phase out the practice. Existing faculty members will be grandfathered in.

All @ijpsjournal.bsky.social authors are special to us, but it is a particular treat to publish undergraduate research. To celebrate our undergrad authors, we started making mock journal covers featuring pictures of undergrad researchers at work. A thread of mock covers from 2025. /1 #PlantScience
Friends, I am quite suddenly and with no warning teaching an upper level ecology class in three weeks. If anyone has any ecology lab materials they are willing to share with me, please reach out.
I’ve started wearing a hat at work most days because I like hats. Particularly backwards baseball hats. The students have no opinion on this but man are my co-workers in other colleges and department confused by this. You can be an academic and not wear a blazer. It’s ok friends.
🔬🌱 We are planning ahead for Botany 2026! We’re looking for folks interested in helping organize a hands-on workshop on building custom LI-COR chambers and measuring gas exchange on non-conventional plant material. 👉 Reach out to jsavage@d.umn.edu if interested! #Botany2026 #bsaecophys

Academia may not give you job security, flexibility, or wealth, but it will let you unexpectedly connect to eduroam in foreign cities
For me, the real humbling bit of this was: you HAVE to keep a regularly updated list of every student who goes on a lab field trip or spends a semester cleaning glassware, otherwise you absolutely will not be able to remember them all at Tenure Time
Hey! New faculty! Your annual reminder to keep track of *everything* you do in some way or another. I just dump stuff into a Google doc, nothing fancy, but saves a ton of time when working on promotion & tenure docs. (Ask me what I'm working on right now...!) 🧪
