Lucky it was only a drill, but there were times like this and this was why they needed drills. Dylan had ordered several, at random moments, but, for some reason, this one descended into #chaos. And that was the point. Find the problems and fix them before they became real problems. #vss365

I leave my books, few torn letters. Words held back written on notes crumpled and thrown under our bed. Scattered, half-written poems born of #chaos which kept my soul peaceful and strong. We shall meet again in a place far beyond prejudice and wrong. ~rev #vss365

You can't truly appreciate the destructive nature of #chaos until you're stuck inside a madman's demented fever dreams. I guess we're in the "burn it all down" phase of our empire and it will take wisdom and foresight to rebuild it correctly. #vss365

The A5s were the first to give birth, weaned off the pain of the world, attuned to the beat of its dying heart. They were formed from the colors of #chaos. They were seeds of hope, planted beneath a leaden sky, barren of tears. Flowers rising from the bone dry earth. #vss365

Biting into the apple, Dylan paused, holding it up before him. Another colony had recently had its supply shipment obliterated and yet here he sat, enjoying #fruit. It felt obscene, but, like the sailors back on the Earth-That-Was, nutrition was paramount. He just felt like a hypocrite. #vss365

'I was apprehensive about your mum's invitation, Pixie, but when she mentioned #Fruit de Gastronomique, I said yes. I like a bit of French food.' 'Ummm... Gabe... I think you misheard. The menu's Fruit de Gastropod. But don't worry, everyone loves my dad's slug bug stew.' #vss365

Carol spotted the new neighbour in the #fruit & veg aisle. The way he was squeezing those nectarines was, frankly, disturbing. She quickly ducked behind the melons. “Hi, Carol!” he chuckled as he passed. She abandoned her trolley and left. Aldi was cheaper, anyway… #vss365

“Dead Fox on Station #Road,” said the latest message on the street WhatsApp group. Ex-Sup’t Carol knew this was code for a speed camera. Did they think she was stupid? “And a speed camera,” replied the new neighbour. Carol spat out her tea. She could almost hug him. Almost… #vss365

Helen finished the last segment of the satsuma and placed the peel in her pocket. As she strolled along the high street, browsing for new books, a warden tapped her shoulder. Maam, I've issued a statutory litter fine. What? Oh, the #fruit rind must have fallen. Irrelevant. Et tu, jobsworth. #vss365

Just in time, Sue jumps out of the way as a car crashes her jeep into a #fruit tree. It’s Tom’s car. The engine is smoking. She runs to the car door and pulls it open. He’s is unconscious and covered in blood. She tugs at his arm. He doesn’t shift. Help, she screams. Help #vss365

‘I like watching birds.’ ‘Me too. Sometimes I can’t tell the difference between a raven and a crow. They #tend to look similar.’ ‘Well, if you look closer, a raven has 13 pinion feathers while the crow has only 12.’ ‘So, what you’re saying is it’s just a matter of a pinion.’ 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ #vss365

She worried about who would #tend to her dog when she was gone. Her son tried to but he struggled to look after himself properly. Her neighbour was surprised that her dog was out by himself. She couldn't see a ghostly hand patting the dog and keeping him safe. #vss365 #writing #stories

Dealing with generals and admirals and the like was like dealing with children. Let them act up and do a lot of shouting and they seemed happy enough, for largely miserable people, but the did #tend to take offence at people disagreeing with them. Dylan disagreed a lot. Probably too much. #vss365

'Oh, come on, Gabe, admit it. You do #tend to be a bit... tetchy.' 'Tetchy! TETCHY. You sneezed snot into my feathers, undid my chair screws, then ate my brownie, Pixie. That does not make me tetchy! It makes me a paragon of restraint!' 'If you say so, Gabe.' Splutter. #vss365

Slowly, though steadily, we tend to rise from the ashes. Remembrance is all that remains, moments where we faltered, others where we rejoiced. Happiness is overrated and so is laughter. Sorrow festers, folded deep in memory, lingering long after the rest. ~rev #vss365 #tend
