Words in BULL, FlashFlood, Does It Have Pockets, Frazzled Lit, Trash Cat Lit, Urban Pigs Press, Fictive Dream. Genrepunk Awards nominee. Shortlisted for the 2026 Bath Novella-in-Flash Award. She/her. @lmbayley at the other place.

I love what @sabrinahicks.bsky.social is saying here: The very act of writing is a willingness to exam all the tender spots of being alive. It requires an amount of bravery, self-sacrifice, that is only admirable coming from, as Mary Oliver reminds us, “the soft animal of your body”.

The Auraist was kind enough to interview me about my debut collection, “Coyote Girl,” which they chose as Best Book of the Month. If you want to read about how much I hate AI or some of my stylistic choices, then read below! open.substack.com/pub/auraist/...

This worries me. Yesterday I started a submission email with a compliment about the litmag. Was I being obsequious? Eek. And to make it worse, I promised that I hadn't used AI to write my story. Only to realize, later, that my early drafts of said story contain em-dashes...

3-If you're 50-50 on a writer's output being LLM-generated then another way to catch them is actually their correspondence. They will outsource this to AI sometimes, too. They'll send you absurdly fawning, obsequious replies (nobody communicates like this)

OMG OMG OMG would you look at what @sagetyrtle.bsky.social did based on one of my favourite photographs!!!!!!! I love this so much. This is the kind of art that makes me so happy. When you can see that the artist has approached the subject with LOVE and JOY. It's priceless.

As requested by @lmbayley.bsky.social, this ridiculously adorable princess of a chipmunk. (See below for reference photo.) I tried @crankypacifist.bsky.social's suggestion to turn ref. photo for better perspective, and I think it worked a treat. I GOT NEW MARKERS WHEEE What should I draw next?

Pen and marker drawing of a chipmunk sitting on a small wall with one paw in the air and one on the wall supporting its weight. In the lower right corner it says "12 / 365, Jul 30 2026".

Editors, if you ever need proof that I wrote something without AI, I'll send you all the screenshots, scans, and document links you want. I'll even tell you what ALT code you use to make an em-dash.

@drewgum.bsky.social makes an important point here that I've never thought about before, and I think I should address it: "I guess the sex gets mentioned because I don’t have gay readers. If I ever have a gay reader they might not notice it. I might just blend in. Like I do in the rest of my life."

Latest Substack is up and dancing. “On the gayest book I’ve ever read.” With thanks to @lmbayley.bsky.social and @daja57.bsky.social for their brilliant reviews 🙏☺️ substack.com/@drewgummers...
