Rep. Zoe Lofgren

@lofgren.house.gov

Member of Congress proudly representing CA’s 18th Congressional District, which serves communities in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, & Santa Cruz counties.

Yesterday, I joined leaders in San Jose’s Japantown to stand against the potential ICE detention facility in Gilroy. I’ve proposed amendments in Congress to block new detention center construction, and I’ll continue fighting to ensure that ICE’s lawlessness is reined in.

Happy National Intern Day! We’re grateful to have the help of Estevan, Ethan, and Owen in our DC office this summer. They’ve done a wonderful job making sure #CA18 constituents get the assistance they need.

Trump’s tariffs are putting an increased burden on families during back to school season. Congress needs to take action and end Trump’s taxes on American consumers that are making everything more expensive.

I sat through Jack Smith’s deposition, and he answered everything asked of him. Republicans can’t get mad about questions they never posed during the deposition. It’s an absurd and vindictive criminal referral, and any impartial judge would be able to see that.

Rep Jamie Raskin (D-MD): “With today’s referral of Jack Smith to DOJ, Chairman Jordan and the Republican Congress have embarrassed themselves again in this investigation. Jack Smith was clear and consistent in his testimony, and he told the truth”

The budget that Republicans are trying to rush through Congress this week isn’t America First - it’s America Last. They think we don’t have money to solve problems here at home, yet we have enough to spend on Trump’s endless foreign wars and pet projects like his ballroom.

ICE spent $1 billion of your taxpayer money buying up warehouses and creating detention facilities in folks’ backyards. I voted for an amendment that would prohibit these purchased warehouses from being used for family detention, but Republicans rejected it.

I just signed @sylviagarcia.house.gov’s petition to force a full House vote on legislation to protect our DREAMers and TPS recipients. I’m proud to co-lead this bill and fight for our neighbors who have lived lawfully in the U.S. for years, making meaningful contributions to our nation.

Great to have Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley drop by our DC office! I really enjoyed hearing from these young leaders about their experiences and the importance of funding youth programs that promote well-being, workforce readiness, and academic success.

Californians are facing the highest health premium jump in 16 years. Republicans decided that we didn’t have enough money to support ACA tax credits to lower healthcare costs, but we did have enough money for ICE and an illegal war with Iran.

Trump’s asking for $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon but can’t give $34 billion to help California rebuild from wildfires? Taxpayer dollars should be going to our disaster-stricken communities, not an illegal war in Iran.

Monterey and San Benito Counties: a public safety power shutoff may be impacting your area today due to elevated fire danger. There will be community resource centers open in King City, Carmel Valley, and Lockwood on Wednesday.

I was honored to be invited to the ribbon cutting of Inertia Enterprises’ brand new headquarters in Livermore on Friday! As the ranking member of the House Science Committee, I’m thrilled to see the future of clean, safe fusion energy being developed right here in the Bay Area.

$56,400,000,000 Over $56 billion. That’s how much more Americans have paid in gas since the beginning of Trump’s Iran War - about $477 per household. Families shouldn’t be paying the price for Trump’s reckless decisions.

ICE has now killed two unarmed people in the span of a week, neither of which were the target of a warrant. Agents didn’t have body cameras. I’m angered and heartbroken for the families of these victims, and they deserve justice.

California’s kids have been especially hurt by the Republicans’ Big Ugly Law. Congress needs to reverse these disastrous cuts to food assistance, because no child should be going hungry in the richest nation in the world.

BREAKING: TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS HAVE KICKED AT LEAST 1.5 MILLION KIDS OFF SNAP https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/snap-tracker-people-are-losing-food-assistance-as-the-republican-megabill#_ftn1

I visited Martha’s Kitchen in San Jose yesterday to help serve dinner. Food kitchens like this have become even more important due to policies in Republicans’ Big Ugly Law, which slashed food assistance for over 4 million Americans. We must reverse these cuts.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of touring the Reliable Robotics Headquarters to learn about their work. Right here in Santa Clara County, the future of aviation is being shaped by new technology that will reduce accidents and make flying safer.
