Today is the 201st anniversary of the '1825 North Sands Massacre' in Sunderland. Sailors on strike & bystanders were gunned down by the authorities, the inquest conclusion 'justifiable homicide'. Another example in Britains long & bloody history of state violence. This is from the 200th anniversary.

Here's a reminder of everywhere our documentary Defiant - County Durham, the Miners' Strike, and its Legacy is screening so far, but the list is being updated regularly. There have been 3 screenings already but still plenty more to come linktr.ee/RedhillsDurham

It was so good to be at the Gala today, just enjoying it rather than working. Every year they have an artist design the merch, this year was Redhills' slogan 'The Past We Inherit, The Future We Build'. It looked fabulous. Our film was being advertised on the show field. What a day.

My friend Shaun has written a great piece on this recent photograph of a Black woman surrounded by masked men, and the ripples of meaning that spread from it. 'The camera had recorded a fraction of a second. The meanings attached to that fraction of a second accumulated rapidly afterwards.'

The afterlife of a photograph

When a photograph becomes iconic, what happens to the person inside it? A reflection on memory, recognition and photography's ethics.

Last night's premiere of Defiant was so great, we had around 200 people at Redhills in the beautiful Pitmans Parliament. After the screening, many stayed for a Q&A and we got some great questions. Here's a pic our pals took of us on the stage with some great folks.

Overwhelmed by tonight at Redhills Durham. The premiere of 'Defiant - County Durham, The Miners' Strike and its Legacy' was an incredible success. To Vonni, Alix and the Redhills team, and to everyone who came out in support. THANK YOU! It really means so much, M&M X
