Congrats Drs. Ryan Bowles, @loriskibbe.bsky.social & Yatma Diop (Ph.D. alumnus) on publishing “Within-group variability in communication style among caregivers & its relation to the language abilities of Wolof-learning toddlers in Senegal” in Developmental Psychology spr.ly/60174nazB

@insidehighered.com is reporting that the Education department is laying off half of staff: "Ahead of the announcement, the department told staff that DC offices would be closed on Wednesday and reopen Thursday." This will hurt communities, campuses, and children in red states and blue.

My department decided to admit fewer students for next year due to all of these uncertainties. The long-term viability of our graduate programming now seems unclear. Training the next generation of scholars is one of the best parts of my job and a core mission of R1 institutions. Dark times indeed.

This is going to go on at many universities - the uncertainty will lead to fewer graduate programs. It will hobble scientific research which appears to be the goal.
