Exciting week! 🇸🇪 Borja, Jihun, Xue, and Diego went to the 11th European Crystallographic School in Stockholm! It was an amazing opportunity to learn crystallography from scratch, straight from the top experts in the field. Excited to look at our beautiful crystal structures back in the lab! 👀

Marcelo Malagutti presented on thermal diffuse scattering in nanocrystalline systems at the 19th European Powder Diffraction Conference and TOPAS workshop in Crans-Montana🇨🇭. The event sparked new collaborations to advancing powder diffraction tools for complex energy materials' analysis.🚀🧪

Bettina and our postdocs Xue, Bibhuti, and a PhD student Diego attended the MOF2026 conference in New Orleans🗽 Bettina gave a plenary lecture on redox conductivity and optoionics in molecular frameworks, and Xue, Bibhuti, and Diego presented their work on redox activity and crystallization of COFs

On May 17th, 21 members of the MPI-FKF from 12 different nations participated as the FKF-Nanorunners team at the 33rd Stuttgart run 🏃🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ In the ranking of female runners, the team reached a respectable 15th (out of 122) rank, and in the ranking of male runners, the 27th (out of 180) position! 👏👏

Our group members, Lucas Balzat and Sebastian Bette, joined the 34th annual meeting of the Crystallographic Society in Lübeck 🎉 They presented on phase transitions in lithium-tin based ion conductors and novel nickel-magnesium coordination polymers, investigated with in situ diffraction techniques 🧪

We had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Katherine Mirica (Dartmouth College, USA). She shared insights into her work by giving a talk on “Smart Membranes for Simultaneous Chemical Sensing, Filtration, and Detoxification” and engaged in lively discussions on sensing applications of MOFs and COFs.

Four of our PhD students just organized the Max Planck Science Policy Winter School.🏛️ An entire week which brought together 50 young scientists in Berlin to explore where science can have an impact in the political sphere and how it can shape a more resilient future! 🌍 Congrats to them! 🎉
